Cyanotype Wildflower Workshops

Looking for a unique way to experience the magic of Connemara? Join us every Wednesday this July and August for our Wildflower Cyanotype Workshop at the legendary Keane’s Bar.
We’ll start with a gentle nature walk to gather local botanicals before heading to our private, light-filled space upstairs at Keanes —formerly the 19th-century home of engineer Alexander Nimmo. You’ll learn all the essentials of the 180-year-old art of "sun printing" to create your own striking Prussian-blue botanical artworks to take home as a beautiful memento of your day.

FAQ's

What are the hours?

Workshops run on Wednesdays between 11.30 and 3.00 pm

What is included in the workshop?

All materials, 3–4 cyanotype prints on handmade cotton rag paper, one framed artwork to take home, use of fresh and pressed botanicals, a short paved nature walk (weather permitting), and a locally made vegetarian lunch with dessert plus tea and coffee.

Who will teach the workshop?

The workshop is taught by Sally, a full-time artist and professional member of the Design & Crafts Council of Ireland. Sally has been working with cyanotype for over ten years and will take you through the history, development, and all the basic techniques in a relaxed, accessible way.

Do I need any experience?

No — complete beginners are very welcome. The workshop is relaxed, creative, and suitable for all levels.

Is the venue accessible?

The workshop is held upstairs at Keane’s Bar, accessed by a flight of stairs. There is no elevator/lift, so the space isn’t suitable for anyone who cannot climb stairs.

What should I wear or bring?

Wear whatever is comfortable. If rain is forecast, bring a lightweight waterproof jacket for the short paved walk. Optional: bring a few small pressed snippets of leaves or flowers if you’d like to personalise your prints — but we provide a beautiful selection on the day.

Is the nature walk difficult?

No — it’s a short, gentle walk on paved ground directly opposite the venue. If the weather is unsuitable, we stay indoors and use the botanicals provided.

Is lunch included?

Yes. Provided by a professional local baker (HSE-registered and insured) and served in our private upstairs room. The vegetarian lunch will include, for example,  homemade vegetarian quiche and a choice of desserts. Tea, coffee, and water included.

Can you cater to dietary requirements?

Yes — please tell us at the time of booking. We can usually accommodate vegan, gluten‑free, and nut‑free needs with advance notice.

Where is the workshop held?

Upstairs at Keane’s Bar, Maam Bridge, a beautiful historic building in the heart of the Maam Valley. Parking is available on site.

Can I book you to run the workshop at my accommodation/event/venue

Yes, provided it's practical, we can travel to you - please email sallypoemprints@gmail.com to discuss.
