A3 Fern Cyanotypes
A3 Fern Cyanotypes
Ferns are ubiquitous on the West Coast of Ireland, their delicate fronds unfurling from amazing fiddle-head shaped shoots as lime green heralds of Spring, transitioning to brilliant russet reds, flaming orange & burnt umber tones in Autumn. I grow these in my garden, harvesting different sizes throughout the year - they can grow to over a metre in height.
Media: An original cyanotype on handmade cotton rag paper created from recycled T-shirts. Please be aware that the product images are examples only, since each piece is produced individually by hand making it unique & original. The artwork you receive will be similar to, but not precisely the same, as those shown. I aim for uniformity of blue, but again, each piece will vary slightly in depth of colour. Where more than one piece is ordered I will endeavour to match the 'Prussian Blue' tone of each.
Species info: Dryopteris dilatata or the broad buckler-fern is a species of deciduous/semi evergreen fern native to Ireland. You'll see it growing by roadsides & blanketing the hills of Connemara.
Fern meaning and symbolism in the language of flowers: Ferns don't generally produce flowers, but the various plant almanacs list the fern's spiritual symbolism as representing sincerity, magic, fascination & shelter.
