Real shamrocks are charmingly delicate & elegant – a far cry from the day-glo green, cartoonish depictions they’re often reduced to. Emblem of Ireland, I grow them in pots out here because they're just to dainty for my wild, mad garden which'd just swallow them up in the blink of an eye. I try to select different sized blooms throughout the year, preserving them by pressing if I can (though they're just too delicate to last for very long). Right now, I’ve bought most of them indoors to over-winter where they’ve grown bigger than usual & more translucent - I love the way these indoor plants create butterfly like shapes, their fat heart shaped leaves randomly overlapping.
Media: An original cyanotype on handmade cotton rag paper created from recycled T-shirts. Please be aware that the product images are examples only, since each piece is produced individually by hand making it unique & original. The artwork you receive will be similar to, but not precisely the same, as those shown. I aim for uniformity of blue, but again, each piece will vary slightly in depth of colour. Where more than one piece is ordered I will endeavour to match the 'Prussian Blue' tone of each.
Species info: At most times, Shamrock refers to either the species Trifolium dubium (lesser/yellow clover), or Trifolium repens (white clover). Mine are the latter. They are distinct from straightforward clover (the type that's probably in your lawn). You can see my clover cyanotypes here.
Shamrock meaning and symbolism in the language of flowers: Ireland, love, luck, hope - the shamrock is said to have been used by St Patrick as a simple metaphor for explaining the Christian concept of the Holy Trinity.
