All along the roadways of the West of Ireland, slender arching chocolate-brown stems bear the beautiful bright pink & purple bells of Fuchsia flowers which colour the hedgerows from July to October. When I first saw the masses of wild Fuchsia flowering by the roadsides here, I couldn't believe my eyes & had to stop my car to double check; I knew them only as fussy, delicate plants you'd need to bring inside over winter Originally brought here as rarities from South America, the present inhabitants are garden escapees. The gorgeous blousy flowers have the look of tiny ballerinas - their shape works perfectly with the cyanotype technique which emphasises the pretty 'dancer' outline.
Media: An original cyanotype on handmade cotton rag paper created from recycled T-shirts. Please be aware that the product images are examples only, since each piece is produced individually by hand making it unique & original. The artwork you receive will be similar to, but not precisely the same, as those shown. I aim for uniformity of blue, but again, each piece will vary slightly in depth of colour. Where more than one piece is ordered I will endeavour to match the 'Prussian Blue' tone of each.
Species info: The Fuchsia was named after the German botanist, Leonhart Fuchs (1501-1566) and is a large genus of shrubs which originated mainly in South America. There are very many variations - the wild Fuchsia I use is a fairly basic form Fuchsia magellanica.
Fuchsia meaning and symbolism in the language of flowers: In Floriography or the Language of Flowers, Fuchsias symbolize true feelings, deep emotions, amiability, confiding love, and good taste
Size: 10.5 x 14.8 cm, 105 x 149 mm or 4.1 x 5.8 inches
