The vibrant purple blooms of Wild Mountain Heather (common name Ling) paint the mountain sides of Connemara from July to October. They love the acidic soil & high levels of rainfall, flourishing here in magical  profusion to feed the pollinators & fill the air with their beautiful scent. The ones I use grow on a bank behind my house - I only take flowers when the plants are dying back in autumn, they retain their structure for my purposes & are no longer needed by the bees at this time of year.

Media: An original cyanotype on handmade cotton rag paper created from recycled T-shirts. Please be aware that the product images are examples only, since each piece is produced individually by hand making it unique & original. The artwork you receive will be similar to, but not precisely the same, as those shown. I aim for uniformity of blue, but again, each piece will vary slightly in depth of colour. Where more than one piece is ordered I will endeavour to match the 'Prussian Blue' tone of each.

Species info: Calluna vulgariscommon heather, ling, or simply heather, is the sole species in the genus Calluna in the family Ericaceae.

Heather meaning and symbolism in the language of flowers: Heather flowers symbolize good luck & admiration. It's also a symbol of resilience and endurance, due to its hardiness and ability to thrive in harsh conditions. Queen Victoria popularized heather as a good luck charm by wearing sprigs of it and gifting it to friends.
