Mulberry paper cyanotype box frames
Mulberry paper cyanotype box frames
These look great in a sunny windowsill. I've used Honesty seed pods for the cyanotype image - their translucence works well with the fine mulberry paper, & because the pods create an abstract image with no obvious vertical/horizontal axis, you're free to display in landscape or portrait. The box frames stand alone on a flat surface or look equally good simply hung on the wall.
Media: Mulberry paper, cyanotype & FSC certified frame (ie. obtained from sustainably harvested trees) & water based glue. Mulberry paper is made from the bark of the mulberry tree - it has long fibres which help to give the paper its distinctive finish. These fibres also give mulberry paper strength, texture & character so that no two pieces are the same. The paper finds its roots in Asia, with its origins tracing back to ancient China, where it was initially used for calligraphy and artwork. The Paper Mulberry tree, cultivated specifically for paper production, played a crucial role in the development and sustainability of mulberry paper. One of the distinguishing features of mulberry paper is its labour-intensive, traditional production process. The bark of the Paper Mulberry tree is harvested by hand and then boiled to soften it. Once softened, the bark is meticulously washed, cleaned, and beaten into a pulp. The pulp is subsequently applied to screens and allowed to air-dry. The result is a delicate paper with a unique and recognisable texture.
