XXL Fern Cyanotypes
XXL Fern Cyanotypes
Ferns are ubiquitous on the West Coast of Ireland, their delicate fronds unfurling from amazing fiddle-head shaped shoots as lime green heralds of Spring, transitioning to brilliant russet reds, flaming orange & burnt umber tones in Autumn. I grow these in my garden, harvesting different sizes throughout the year - they can grow to over a metre in height. My XL pieces are created using ferns at their peak glory when they've grown to Amazonian heights.
Media: An original cyanotype on handmade cotton rag paper created from recycled T-shirts. My XXL pieces are made using some of the worlds largest handmade papers. This is a totally unique, one-of-a-kind, very special piece - I create a maximum of two XXL cyanotypes of each featured species per year. Please also note that this piece is for sale in other galleries & may not necessarily be available. In the event of it having sold prior to you making a purchase I will of course immediately issue a refund. Thank you for your understanding in this.
Species info: Dryopteris dilatata or the broad buckler-fern is a species of deciduous/semi evergreen fern native to Ireland. You'll see it growing by roadsides & blanketing the hills of Connemara.
Fern meaning and symbolism in the language of flowers: Ferns don't generally produce flowers, but the various plant almanacs list the fern's spiritual symbolism as representing sincerity, magic, fascination & shelter.
Please note that this piece is sold unframed & will be shipped in a large cardboard postal tube - the image shown is a picture of the actual piece you will receive, framed for illustrative purposes only.
